How to clone a Linux virtual image to redeploy in vm? (like sysprep for Win)

I'm working on building a pre-patched image of Linux and Windows. Windows I used sysprep and worked out pretty well but not sure what is the steps for Linux? I am planning to use CentOS and Ubuntu, is there a command or script that will recheck the MAC address and prompt for new machine name?

A bit lost but know there must be a solution out there.

Thanks!

I think I'd look at the p2v apps. Vmware has one that may work well. It is the vm converter.

I know about P2V converter but was looking for how to "reset" the Linux system so it's ready to deploy.

For example in Windows you could prep the system, then copy it in a VM setting, then deploy it as a new system, power it on and it's a fresh patched system.

Maybe I'm thinking it's already out there but I'm not familiar with Linux.

Thanks!
