how to check installed programs in linux?


How can i know if i have the program installed in linux(centos 5).
for example:
i want to install the pgadmin3 but it require the wxWidgets versions 2.6.2.

how can i know if the wxWidgets versions 2.6.2 is already installed?

is there a command to check my installed programs in linux?

It would help if you gave us some more information on your system. Some systems come with different tools to check programs and such. In a terminal, if you type "which <program>" minus the quotes, and replace <program> with the filename of the program you want to use, it should tell you if it is on your computer (specifically in your PATH).

You can use yum to search with

Code:
yum list wx*
Code:
yum search wxwidgets
for example.

If you want a GUI to do this type of thing, install yumex
Code:
yum -y  install yumex
