How to check if iso is good before burning?
 

I'm installing Slackware on my 486 and the only way to do a no prompt install is to make it install everything, which I find is dumb because I won't use any of these packages - I don't even know what any of them do! But anyway, it's been installing for 11 hours with no problems, was finally asked to insert the next CD, but now I'm getting allot of fatal errors saying the package could be corrupted.

Is there a way to validate the ISOs before burning, and then validate the CD once it's burt, to make sure it's intact? For the ISOs I checked the file sizes but they round it up to the MB so it's not a really accurate check, I was also able to open it with winiso and see all the folders.

md5sums will do this for you.

Also if your installing Slack, just do the custom install... it will prompt you for each package series, you check off what you want to install or not install... then it will then install all the packages you selected afterwards.

md5sum. Its a 128 bit checksum generated from the iso file.

You can find windows versions too. The website you downloaded file from should also have a md5sum file. Compare the one from the webste with the one you generated using the md5sum utility. If the numbers match you are 99% sure the file you downloaded is good.

Oh ok cool, I'll try that. I assume I can download that program at download.com or something?

As for installing, I tried using the one that promps for each package, but that takes bloody ages. Even if I say no, I still have to wait 5 minutes so it displays the next one... (it's a 486)
