How To change the main menu icon

I would like to change the main menu icon.

I am running Fedora core 1
and i am using gnome.

I tried the google this but most of the answers were confusing.

could you please explain this to me I'm very new to linux.

I downloaded so icons and would like to use then

I tried to rename the new icon the gnome-main-menu.png

and then place it in /usr/share/icons/bluecurve

but that didn't work.

So please help LOL thanks.
