Should be as easy as sudo apt-get install gdm.

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

QueenZ@creepy-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install gdm

gdm is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
linux-headers-2.6.27-7 linux-headers-2.6.27-7-generic
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

OK so it looks like it's already installed.. so run dpkg-reconfigure to choose your desktop manager.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm

That should allow you to choose, xdm, kdm, or gdm

if gdm were not already installed this configuration step would have been offered automatically as part of the install.
