How to change resolution in OpenSuse 10.1
 

Hi Everyone,
I am a Linux newbie using Opensuse 10.1. Installation went flawlusly without a hitch up to the point where it asked about my monitor. Opensuse recognized it as a 19” CRT monitor. I’ve used it for a long time and always used it as 1024x768 without a problem. At the end of the installation it said, 19” monitor, 24, 1280x some big number… Way to small for my eyes. So I changed it to 1024x768. I accepted the changes then the monitor went black and rather than a green power light on the monitor I now have amber light. Now I can’t see what I am doing. The only time I can see anything is just before it presents the login screen or after the user logs off or restart the computer. Is there like a fail safe or something? I tried using fail safe but it just presents with a command line. Not sure what to do. Is there a command that I can type to tell it to change the resolution so my monitor can work? Any help would be appreciated..

Try [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[+] or [-] until you find a suitable preconfigured resolution, if you are in the window manager with your screen blank; then, when resolution change, reconfigure as before. Or you can try xorgconfig from the command line if you want to reconfigure your resolutions, plus keyboard, mouse, video driver etc. (I assume Opensuse 10.1 have xorg installed by default). Your old video config stays in /etx/X11/xorg.conf.old for you to recover it. Excuse my english, please.
