How to change computer name? + LILO Q

I tried searching but i couldn't find the answer, probably because i don't know the actual name...

when linux boots up and i log in it says 'nathan@myname' I want it to say something more intuitive, such as 'nathan@laptop' or something like that. It seems i didn't set the computer name right.

how can i change this, that is, where is the file i need to change?

Also, about LILO. As of know it counts down 1:30 until it boots. Is there a file I can change to set it to something less, like 5 or 10 seconds?

Thanks for the help and excusing my 'newb-ness'

TIA

Nathan

Usually the name of the computer is set in /etc/HOSTNAME or /etc/hostname

1. /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname
2. change the timeout variable in /etc/lilo.conf

Just to add to what synaptical said...

The timeout is usually in something other than seconds. I think it's actually like in 1/10th of a second. So the default timeout is around 1200 or 1500.

I change mine to 50 which makes my count down 5 seconds

Peace,
Whitehat
