How to build glibc on CentOS 5

I try to download the latest glibc 2.18 but found that it requires the kernel header files from Linux 2.6.19 or later.

Then I try to download an older version glibc 2.15 which does not require that but found that there is a bug during 'make' (Bug 14045). The bug was fixed in glibc 2.16 but it requires newer kernel header files.

The glibc in my CentOS 5 PC is quite old and I need to upgrade it. Please could you kindly suggest how can I resolve this issue?

Exchanging the glibc in a system is very dangerous and will likely lead to a broken system. The recommended way to upgrade the glibc is to upgrade the complete OS to a newer version that includes the glibc you need.

If you MUST stay with RHEL/CentOS/ScientificLinux then install the current version
CentOS 6.4 then upgrade to 6.5 once it is released

or

install Fedora 20
or
OpenSUSE 13.1
