how to: boot w/out log-in, run firefox@startup&shutdown w/ password after 10hours

hi to all

i run absolute linux, based on slackware.
i'd like to offer a public computer with a restricted internet access and locked down desktop.

1. i'd like to know how to log in a user without typing a password and loaded into gui (iceWM in my case) desktop only with a push on the switch on button on the computer.

2. how to run firefox automatically at startup.
any good links how to make firefox working in "kiosk mode":
- no possibility of adding new bookmarks bookmarks
- fullscreen mode
- when it's closed all the data & history should be deleted
- only loads allowed sites.

3. how to log-out or shutdown with password - to prevent users-guests doing it?

4. and finally, how to shut the computer down daily, lets say 10 hours after it was switched on ? where to include that instruction and what it should be? something like shutdown -h 600 ?

- the computer has to be shut down each day due to irregular power suply and similar electricity interruptions which could damage the file system.

and i wouldn't like to run the computer from a bootable linux cd, because there are things to change constantly at the place where the computer will be used. background pictures, website, bookmarks, news and more.

i'm trying to find these main points on different forums and i still don't have satisfactory answers. i believe one line of explanation can't really include all what i'd like to know.
so thanks to those who know how to manage that easily and can spend 5 min to write it down

thank you a lot. until next questions.
regards,
o

Question 1:

The problem is, most of us don't use iceWM. I can tell you how to do it in KDE, but the files may not be the same.

/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc is a config file. Here is the section I believe controls it, no idea what the equivalent is in ice.

[X-:0-Core]
AutoLoginAgain=false
AutoLoginDelay=0
AutoLoginEnable=true
AutoLoginLocked=false
AutoLoginUser=john
ClientLogFile=.xsession-errors

However, a quick Google: linux icewm autologin

gave me the following hit:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...dora-5-552826/

It might work better.

For the Firefox in full screen kiosk mode, there is a addon that will run it in that mode specifically.

Clearing data and history is a setting in firefox itself. Edit, Preferences, Privacy, there is a spot marked Privacy Data that has a check box to clear both on shutdown.

For getting Firefox to start up automatically it needs to be in the session run list, like irlandes, not sure exactly for IceWM, but gnome has a session list of all process that are to be started on bootup, make sure firefox is one of them.

Loading only allowed sites, will use a filter/blocking plugin is easiest, one thats modifiable is best. The addon lists at Mozilla.com has a good selection to choose from.

I found a listing for an old walkthru on how to set up firefox as a kiosk for a university student union in IceWM, it might help with some of the particulars (think they were using Red Hat). http://www.unc.edu/~payst/?p=2
