How to be the "super user"?

I went on the ATI website to download the latest drivers for my videocard on my laptop (a Radeon Xpress 200M) and I can't install them because I have to be logged on as the super user... But I don't know how to be that "super user"... I have just installed Fedora Core 4 on my laptop and I would like to have some help to log in as the super user... Thanks!

Sorry if my english sucks, it's not my first language.

For ESL, your English is excellent!!

Depending on your distribution, you should be able to log out, and then log in as "root" using the password that you provided during install. If you did not supply one, then it should let you in with no password.
Before doing anything else, assign a password by typing passwd in a terminal.
In some distros, eg Ubuntu, the root user is disabled. Activate it using sudo passwd root.

Once you know that root is activated, you type "su" in a terminal become root.
