How to backup WinXP HDD w/Linux/Unix
Hi,
Another newbie here. I'm a big command line freak from DOS and OS/2 days. I know the unix command dd can be used to back up a HDD sector by sector, but how would I burn this data to a DVD. I'm trying to create an image of the hdd and burn to DVD. I don't necessarily have to have access to specific files; I just want to put the hdd back the way it was if there is a crash or what not. Thanks.
Terry

Welcome to LQ!
Perhaps Partimage can do the job?

I tried PartImage, but it would not even complete booting on either of my boxes.

I believe all LiveCD's have partimage, Knoppix is probably best when it comes to booting on different hardware. 'knoppix 2' from boot prompt will start it withot GUI (fast).
