How to Authenticate users in a Hotspot

Hello.

I would like to set up a Hotspot service around my neighborhood with several WRT54G running DD-WRT. I would have a base router connected to a Debian router running iptables and all the http traffic from the LAN would be redirected to a transparent cache running squid on a DMZ. So far I have that working. Now I would like to add some sort of Captive Portal (I guess this is how, but dont know how to implement it).

I would like anybody who can get a signal to access the network but, when trying to browse the internet they receive a page asking them to login to the network. If authenticated they are allow to continue to browse otherwise get dropped or disconnected from the LAN.

Has anyone done anything similar? If so, How?

Any recommendations?

Thank you in advanced for your help.

I think RADIUS and Chillispot will do what you want. Check out www.chillispot.info
