How to ask for help here
Hi
I 'm taking this space to pose some doubts. For hours I've been looking at linuxquestions.org for the opportunity to pose some questions while asking for help. 01- After installed Slack 12.0 No console under ctr+alt+fn ran or openef a console. 02- in order to upgrade the system I have used by Debian some tools like apt-get install or remove, or even aptitude, tasksel etc. Bye Slack I tried to use installpkg when I have the package already downloaded, but to look for packages directly I have not been able. Please where can I find such hints and cues to get what I need to correctly administrate my intranet and Slackware 12.0 as server. Excuse me for so many doubts, any help will be welcome. I thank in advance. Allein Stark |

What are you trying to achieve? Slackware's package-tools do NOT support on-line updates. There's a few 3rd party tools that will, though. To upgrade from an all ready downloaded package use upgradepkg To view what's installed do ls /var/log/packages Cheers, Tink |
On-line updates are possible with Slackware via slackpkg, which is IMO an excellent tool. It's available under /extra, iirc.
I don't really understand your first question. Also, just a note. Unless there is a major security flaw, you shouldn't be upgrading your software (typically). It just introduces a potentially unstable environment. |
May I give you some advice on asking questions? Asking the question in the right way is the best way to get it seen by someone who can help.
Questions about Slackware are best raised in the Slackware forum. Ask each one separately, with a clear title, like Virtual terminals not available for your CTRL-ALT-FN problem How to get new packages I think that is what you want? |
Virtual Terminals
