How to arrive at the desktop

I installed the Suse 10.2 dvd that came with the latest Linux magazine. I got all the way through and then this line popped up right after the Line "Have a lot of fun" line:
baker237@linux-g7803:">

What am I supposed to enter after the "greater than" sign to get to the desktop?
Thanks, Frank C.

Give this a try...
Code:

startx

It may have done this because the video driver is not set up correctly. Try typing "startx"

What is your video card and monitor and what settings--if any--did you choose for them during install?

How to arrive at the desktop

Yes, thank you both. I have been having trouble with my computer crashing a lot especially over the past four months when I have been trying to use DVD-RAM discs with my Windows XP pro installation. The crashes started increasing in severity and I started getting messages suggesting I try changing my video adapter (among many other suggestions). I changed from an ATI 256Mg card to an NVidea 256Mg card but the crashes continued and became so bad that now I've lost much of my data.
Now that I remember the Suse install also mentioned problems with the video card and then the installation added something to help a successful install. The installation suggested a 24bit setup with the monitor.
Since two video cards are now used and both OS's point to the same area I suspect the video chip on the Gigabyte mb is developing problems. The fan on this mb video chip started to become very noisy at times so I have ordered a new one. The fan may have nothing to do with the problem and I may have to see if the mb can be repaired or if I have to buy a new board.
Yes I arrived at the desktop. Thanks!
Frank C.
