How to apply a sound scheme?

As the subject states - can we specifically assign sounds to events or set a sound scheme?

Running RH 8.0

What Window Manager are you using or Desktop environment ?? Usually you can edit sounds thru the Control Center of like say Gnome or KDE that way.. etc ??

Sorry about leaving that info out - using KDE 3

I looked through control center - must of missed it.
