How to add unofficial Debian repositories?

I've tried to add unofficial Debian repositories with Synaptic, but I can't figure out the correct syntax when Synaptic (0.62.1.) asks for "the complete APT line". After every attempt Synaptic refuses to start before I remove the (erroneous) line manually from /etc/apt/sources.list.

How can I know what the syntax is for adding e.g. what's at ?

I have lenny installed.

open a terminal, as root add the lines in

use vi or nano to open the file
# vi /etc/apt/sources.lst
# nano /etc/apt/sources.lst
deb lenny main contrib non-free restricted
deb-src lenny main contrib non-free restricted
Kind regards
