How to add applications in Gnome 2.6

Hey...I booted into Gnome for the first time today, and noticed that a few applications that I have in KDE absent (mostly openoffice and Firefox). How can I add applications to the "applications" menu in Gnome?

If you are using a vanilla GNOME, you go to start-here , applications, the group of apps you want to add an app to, create launcher (right click for this option to appear). You may have to log out and back in for the changes to take effect.
