How is the "Lin'N'Win" installtion method?

so i found this site looking for a tutorial on how to dual boot puppy linux. and i had a few questions:

- are there any cons to using this installation method? all the tutorials i've seen so far have been far more complex...

- does this method make a live session boot or is it an installed os on your hard drive?

- can you install programs while using this method?

- how do i get it to run from and save on a partition (made on windows)?

i'm trying to get it on a different partition so i'll have more room for installing doodads and files

They are talking about dual-boot using the Windows bootloader (NTLDR). Basically, you put a Linux grub file into the Windows system and set up the Windows "boot.ini" file to point to it.

IMHO, this is unnecessarily complicated. Most Linux installers will automatically detect the Windows installation and set up dual-boot.

The only caution is to be sure you have a way of restoring the Windows mbr if something goes awry. The easiest--but not the only--way is booting from the Windows install CD in rescue mode. If you do not have an install CD, I think that something like the Ultimate Boot CD can be used.

but puppy linux, which i want to use, does not set up dual boot with a windows-made partition as far as i know.

so is this a normal install? or just a live session running off your computer instead of a disk?

can you put linux on another partition using this method?
