How does YaST work?

Hi there,

I've got a problem with YaST:
When you start it, there are usually lots of packages listed in a window. Since I have updated from SuSE 8.2 to 9.0, they were gone. I can still install packages, but I don't see them in the window. When I tried to change the source folder to a folder full of rpms, YaST said it wouldn't work because it can't create a packagelist (or so).
btw, how can I install many packages at once? I'm just installing my new KDE 3.2, and clicking every single package can be very annoying after a while.
