Angry how does $PATH get set? Teach mozilla where is JAVAHOME?

Hi group,

When clicking on the funny-looking character (could be it does not loook funny to you, though ..) near the bottom of this web page

www dot wimbledon dot org/en_GB/scores/weather/index.html

I get the instruction to dig up an application/x-java-vm plug-in. I downloaded and installed the whole JSDK thing from Sun. Now I have tried to put the JAVAHOME=/usr/java
# /usr/java points to /usr/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2
PATH=$PATH:$JAVAHOME/jre/bin
in several locations:
1) /etc/rc.d/init.d/function
2) /etc/profile
3) /etc/profile.d/java.sh

and when I reboot and ask echo $JAVAHOME or echo $PATH my RedHat Linux 8.0 sez "What do ya mean, 'java'?" It seems to know about /root/bin and /usr/sbin 3-5 times over, though.

Can somebody help me figure out/point me to the right place to read up on how environment variables get set at start-up and, perhaps, if there is any trick to get Mozilla know the VM is there? Right now I would even settle for a way to tell Mozilla about VM, so I can see the JRE in action.

Thanks and regards,

Janis

Hi,

This worked for me:
Create a symlink from the mozilla/plugins directory to the javaplugin_oji.so.

This is a common problem.
Try and search these forums for "mozilla" and "java".
You will get a lot of threads on this.

Cheers,
Jan
