How do you view which mailboxes are locked in sendmail and how do you remove the lock

Does anyone know how to find what mailboxes are locked in sendmail and how to remove the lock short of increasing the mailbox size. Also, if increasing the mailbox size doesn't unlock the box, how can the lock be removed?

Locked in Sendmail? And where do you see this Lock?

Welcome to LQ! :)

If you are referring to your inability to read other people's mail, that's a security feature. If you log in as that user, then it's likely you'll then be able to read that mail. To "unlock" it, you can alternatively log in as root, and then cat the specified file.

Cool

I am the administrator and at times I get calls that a customer is recieving invalid password. Doing repquota shows that the customer is over quota and the box is locked. I then have to go and increase the mailbox size to unlock it for the customer. Sometimes if the customer has tried unsucsessfully to get their mail, the box will be locked for security reasons and the customers has to wait 15-20 minutes before being able to retrieve their mail. What I am trying to find out is , is there a way to unlock the box, since I am the admin, without haveing to go through increasing size and waiting 20 mins.

As the admin, you should have set those up, or rather, imposed those time limits and the quotas. You can always adjust your quotas, if that is what you desire. However, as the admin, you should certainly be able to override lockout times. What applications have you used to set these restrictions up? What is the customers interface to retrieve their email, web, email client, either, or, and then, which retrieval method are they using: pop, imap..

Cool

Clients use pop client (Outlook Express, Eudora etc) As for the quotas, this was set up in the beginning with everyone at 5meg. I understand that I can increase the quota but then I have to go back and decrease it to bring them back to the 5meg limit. This is on a Cobalt RaQ550 system and I am unable to get any info from Cobalt. Most of the Linux commands are the same so I think the basic kernel and such are generic Linux. I was wanting a way to temporarely unlock the box for the customer while I had them on the phone without haveing to wait the 15-20 minutes to see if they could get their mail. Most of the setup was questions and answers and at no time did it ask for a time limit. So, that being said I don't know how to change this time limit nor do I know how to unlock the box for the customer in a timely manner.

IMAP server
SMTP server
