How do you update the whatis And whereis databases?


whatis --what??

makewhatis in slackware; your mileage may vary.


whereis, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't use a database.

See man whatis and man whereis.

About dot com says

The whatis database is created using the command /usr/sbin/makewhatis.

Whereis seems to be simply a search function.
