Have you installed kde desktop? If not then you will not be able to do that. You will need to install kde-full package first. That will install kde desktop. Once that is done, you can change the desktop environment from option on the login screen.

Hi Ron;
To start with, Ubuntu is a distribution, not a desktop. Do you have a dual boot system with Ubuntu and openSUSE 11.2 as the subject heading leads one to believe?

Ubuntu is a distribution of linux, just as openSUSE, Fedora, Mint, etcetera are. A desktop runs under linux and provides the X-windowing environment and support for it. Not trying to preach, just clarifying the difference.

If you're running openSUSE (any version), Ubuntu is not an available desktop environment. Or are you running Ubuntu in a VM under OS 11.2?

You could install KDE or any other DESKTOP in openSUSE by downloading it from the repositories. If you want help with that just let us know.

Tom

I just want to add that
  • You can install (in SuSE) as many different desktop environment as you'd like...KDE, Gnome and XFCE are common choices, but there are others available
  • The environments such as Gnome and KDE are very customisable; you do not have to have it look anything like it looked straight out of the box
  • Many people don't notice the 'choose desktop' option at login; it isn't hard to spot, but the biggest problem is that they are not looking for choices when the system asks them to select user and type password
