Go to the download site. There`s a forum for it near the middle of this forum index.
Some of them you have to download as .ISO files, and others you can order CD`s from like Ubuntu.

Easy.

Download a Linux .iso from one of the many Linux distro sites available for your pleasure. Burn it to a CD as an image (.iso). Run it then, if you like it, install it and when it asks you how you'd like to partition your hard drive let it use the whole disc.

XP will be gone.

Of course, you can keep XP simply by telling the install to create a separate partition for Linux.

Windows is not required to install Linux. Just boot from a Linux CD and install.

A refreshing question...most want to keep Windows also (which makes things more difficult).

Linux and Windows are both operating systems--you only need one at a time.

The "getting started" link below might be useful.
