How do you install a video driver
I'm running Mepis v6.5.02 with KDE 3.5. My video card is an ATI Radeon 9550. How do I determine the correct driver and download and install it? Can I use Synaptic, kpackage, etc. to do this? Thanks.

There's "radeon" already which doesn't provide hardware 3d accelaration. For that your options are either MESA (check their site) or propriteary ATI driver called fglrx (check ATI site if your card is supported). There is probably a binary package for fglrx on Mepis, you should use that. Second option is to obtain the installer from ATI's site and install it "manually", which may prove difficult. ATI's drivers are known for being stubborn and not work nicely, so...be warned ;)

I tried the fglrx 3D driver in Mepis. Just turned my computer into a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I used a program called Envy which say my driver is ATI 8.38.7. How would I install that?
