How do you connect to the internet

I am new to ubuntu,I have an ADSL USB Modem connected to my XP OS, but I don`t know how to connect ubuntu to the internet.
Please can anyone give me a step by step explanation on how to do so.

Is your ADSL modem connected via usb, or via an ethernet cable? Which kind of modem is it?

Hello, when the hardwere was detected properly, you only have to start a ppp connection, tis should be very similar to a modem connection. For instance KPPP is such a tool for this...
Maybe this helps a little bit.
