Question how do you connect to the internet


ive been using windows 98 since i got my computer so connecting to the internet was easy. last week i got red hat linux 7.2 but i havent figured out to connect to the internet

There are several ways, it really depends on your isp and the hardware used to connect to their servers.

first , What modem do you have.
if you pay a cheap 20 box modem chances are that is a winmodem ( a rj11 plugin) and setting winmodems under linux is a bit of a task, but if you have a real modem, ( let say a external, or a us robitics,) you should use KPPP setting
you will need to know yur user account , password, Dns servers, etc. etc.

1st. Find the right modem, and install the correct linux driver for it if necessary.
2nd. Check what device it is. Query it in kppp.
3rd. check your isp. If MSN, it won't work. AOL-maybe. Everything else-OK. Find the local access number, and form an account in kppp. Then sign on in the form user@somewhere.com with your password

For mine I plug a white cable into this thing, and then I plug a blue cable from it to my computer.

then it's online
