how do you autostart programs with GNOME ubuntu?

I got the vannila ubuntu desktop installation, and i require that a VNC program starts immediatly. I have auto login enabled, following instructions at bit-tech: Build your own server
[http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2007/06..._own_server/6]

unfortunately, they are using Xubuntu with Xfce desktop manager, and I am using Gnome with Ubuntu. everything else has worked out fine, but I am in need of a way to have this program autostart. I am new to the whole ubuntu file system, so any instruction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
