How do you add hardware? (Esp. USB hardware)


I thought that adding hardware would be something someone would cover when they wrote a book about Linux, but none of my books have anything about it. I also haven't found anything about USB hardware.

Are there any good books or websites that could tell me how to do this, or is it easy enough that someone here could tell me?

I am trying to hook up a USB compact-flash memory reader.

What are you using?
Have you just plugged it in to see what it does?

It says:

usb.c: USB device 5 (prod/vend 0xc45/0x1050) is not claimed by any active driver.

I guess I'll look into installing drivers, you wouldn't happen to know about that would you?

Well, I haven't worked much with compact flash readers to tell you the truth. As far as flash goes, with me, it's been in embedded projects.

So I don't think I can really offer much on this round. However, I do recall there being a few posts on this site before regarding CF readers. They may be locked already, but give the search another try.
