How do we use Error Logs?

Logs are full of errors, warnings etc.
What do I do with these errors and warnings? Do they actually help to tune up the system?

I could add more logs, but I don't think its interesting for someone. I would ust like to know, how to use these hints to tune up the box?

Thanks, l

Well, I'm still learning how to make sense of logs myself but I can tell you that this:

Mar 22 18:43:32 violadabraccio kernel: DROPPED IN= OUT=ppp0 SRC=80.200.204.183 DST=12.129.206.104 LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=1792 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=2636 DPT=631 SEQ=2699535258 ACK=0 WINDOW=5840 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B40101040201030300)

is your firewall telling you that it dropped a packet.
SRC= where the packet is from
DST= pressumably your IP
SRT= source port
DPT= destination port

etc...

as far as the printer goes, it clearly says "Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more." so find the cups config file (probably /etc/cups/cupsd.conf) and set it....

Thank you, thank you. That's already a good start for me. Chris, you already told me about debug. Sorry, I haven't find out how to do it. Could you give a more detailed instruction, please? Thanks indeed.

hmm.. what does shell warning mean:

/tmp/.ICE-authority ownership should be set to root

I go to tmp folder, I find that .ICE-authority file and set the ownership to root. But the next time I start, say, KMail via shell, I get the same message.
