how do I upgrading Fedora?
 

I have fedora1 installed on drive2 (40G) and XP installed on drive1(200G). This machine don't support CD boot. How can I install Fedora6 from with-in Fedora1. With Windows all I have to do is to insert the later CD and the system start installing or I go to a dos prompt and type setup. What is the magic to start a install if you are running fedora1? BWT fedora1 supported diskette boot so installation was easy. I have the DVD burned but do not know how to start the update process. Thanks for any help.

The short answer: you can't. The longer answer: you could try, but your chances of success are close to zero. Basically, you'd have to update one version at a time, i.e., from FC1 to FC2 to FC3 and so on through yum. I'm pretty sure installing from a floppy is no longer supported. I'd like to know why your bios wouldn't let you boot from a CD, but apart from that, you could install from a usb drive. http://docs.fedoraproject.org/instal...usb-media.html

You could create a boot diskette to launch the install CD if you can boot from your floppy drive.

You might also choose to install using a Network Installation.

p.s. You mention that you can't boot from a CD, and yet you're trying to install from a DVD. How old is your system, and are you sure it even has a DVD drive in it?

Thanks for the information. The Machine has 512MB, 200G and 40G drives, AMD 450MHZ Family 5 Model8 processor. I replaced the CD drive with a DVD drive. Most of the 200G and 40G drives are free. Again thanks for the help. :)
