How do i update my firefox?

Hi I have installed ubuntu 10.4 using virtual box(a tool similar to vmware).
The problem is i m very familiar to firefox's window counterpart as the update is very simple.
I have also observed that the preference part of firefox is under edit tab which is not in case of window's (Its under tools).
How would i upgrade my firefox?

Firefox version on ubuntu.:3.6.8
Firefox version on windows:3.6.3

Ubuntu has a rebranded version of FF which is updated by the package manager. And it is updated once it has been tested and found stable.( though this is not always the case )

Hi Chaitanya ,Now its not allowing me to login into empathy IM client(Gtalk) with my account.
Upon login it says network error.
Where do i define the connection property for the empathy IM client?

How would i make them to automatically detect the proxy setting?

I have tried to login from my windows machine(which is hosting ubuntu os using virtual box) .Its working fine on window machine .

Synaptic preferences should not affect other applications. For Empathy, I do not know if there is a setting for proxy configuration. But you can set the Network proxy for system wide use. System > Preferences > Network Proxy
Set it and see if it works.

I tried that but still its not working .

Just curious to ask here in windows i use following format for authentication to proxy server.
username:<domainname>/<username>
password:
Does it make any difference in login format in unix environment?
for example domainname@username or something like that

When does the proxy server ask for authentication? And what is the authentication mechanism? What proxy are you using?
