Here are instructions.

A quick search would have brought up many posts on this forum with the same question.

If, by the boot screen, you mean lilo or grub (where you first choose Win or Lin), then yes, it will interfere with it. If you remove Linux, you shoulf do fdisk /mbr as otherwise you will have to choos Windows each time when it's the only OS.

Another option would be to just 'fdisk /mbr' to remove the bootloader only. That way Linux can still live there without Windows knowing it's there. That way when you return, just reinstall Lilo and voila ... there is your Linux stuff, untouched.

what i did was removed the linux partition and changed it to a fat32 partition then i removed the boot screen using fixmbr from the recovery consol... i was trying to do "fdir /mbr" not realising it was fdisk
anyway i got it all working but now i have another empty partition.. Is there a way i can join the empty partition to the windows partition i am using now?
without corrupting any files?

Partition Magic may be able to do the trick, but otherwise I don't think so. Then again, you'll have a nice empty partition waiting for you on your return!

You're using Mandrake 9.1? Okay then...

Wipe out the Linux partitions by either Partition Magic or booting with the Windows CD and using it to delete the linux partitions (they'll be listed as type Unknown).

After that's done, boot with the Mandrake 9.1 CD, hit F1 when it prompts you and type "rescue" at the prompt that follows. There you'll find the option to reinstall the Windows bootloader. Done.
