how do i uninstall an installed rpm?


i already erased all ./mozilla directory in my harddisk....
i even tried rpm -e mozilla*
then i typed rpm -Uvh mozilla*

it says that the packages are already installed...
what should i do to completely erase an installed rpm? please help....
thank you very much

ouch. You deleted it without uninstalling it? That is not advisable. I assume the message you are getting is because the entry is still in the rpm database. I suggest you reinstall the rpm with the --force option and then do an rpm -e to remove it. Might work.

RPM -i --force <filename>
RPM -e <filename>

You need to be in the directory where mozilla was installed. I would recomend that you use the package manager in Red Hat, assuming that is what you are using based on your profile. Where you have already deleted the ./mozilla directory you may have some problems.

hmm database? how can i erase the mozilla prog in the database? where can i find that database? =)

To delete the existing database do:

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb

thanks crashed_again..... it worked.... i uninstalled mozilla successfully and installed the newer version.... thank you very much....
