How do I start with developing a Distro

Hello, I know that i am along way from the finish line, but I want to make a linux distro with a custom gui. How would I start with this project? Thank you for helping!

Welcome.

This is just a very broad of a question.

Let me give you some general and I mean very general notes on what a distro is.

A distro has some base system,
Has some update or application means,
Has some target audience and machine(s)
Has some use,

Now if you get that far you need to tell us what you mean by custom gui. Do you want to create some window manager or do you want to use old methods like midnight commander uses? Or do you want to use something like X or cde or such?

Hi, welcome to LQ!

Can you be more specific? Most distros today seem to be:
"Take Ubuntu, add this, remove that, call it your own".

How much work do you want to put in?

If you want to truly call it yours, use a LFS build for
the basics, and then start building your own stuff, possibly
your own package management system, ...

Cheers,
Tink
