How Do I Start It Up


Ok I am ready, I have attempted to download the knoppix liveDVD and burn it to disk. However after burning it, when I boot, windows XP loads. My computer is set to boot from CDRom first. I can hear the CD spinning but no Linux

You need to burn it as a bootable disc.

If the tool you used to burn it with doesn't do bootable discs, here's one that does:

(disclaimer: I've no idea how good that might be, I just googled it)

On most software that means "burn image", and point it at the .iso

Yep, use the "burn image" option.

Burn it at your nero (using win). Choose "burn image"

Open the DVD and see what's there....
Many files and folders---good
one file ending in .iso---bad (means that you did not burn from image.)
