how do I setup a lefthanded dvorak keyboard
I am new to the forum so hello to everyone.
As you can see from my question I am having trouble finding much information on how to setup/remap my keyboard to the single lefthand Dvorak layout. I think I could manage through the configuration tools to change to the regular two handed Dvorak layout but Mandrake does not have the lefthanded layout as an option.
Does anybody here have any idea if a lefthanded layout is available? I think I could substitute or add it as a keyboard map in a config file somwhere.
My skill level is about "getting there newbie"
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
hmm. What kind of keyboard layout is that? try downloading some of the files for the regular dvorak and edit it in a text editor.
Unless you have already solved your problem, that is.
I don't know how to edit these files, I am assuming they are already on my system as regular Dvorak is an option. Do you know of any resources for editing keyboard maps or whatever "files" that you think I should try editing?

I haven't got my linux system here so I can't find the files for you but try:
did you ever find out how to do this? I have been searching, and searching.... to no avail.
left hand dvorak
You know I never did follow through with this but have been thinking of trying again. It is almost two years on and you would expect Linux to have caught up with Microsoft here but that is wishful thinking. It seems as though there is fairly low demand for this feature however Microsoft has had fully available as part of the accessibility package since Windows 95.
For those who are keen to try Dvorak there is a typing tutorial program by Bob Harrell at duddubdub.brandonfla.com/typingtutor/
It helps you get oriented to the layout with a series of exercises.
I think if you knew how to edit the keyboard maps in Linux it would be possible to duplicate the Microsoft functionality. With an alternate set of maps installed it is very simple to switch from qwerty to Dvorak and back except of course the labels on the keys do not shift. Should you choose Dvorak it is an easy task to lever the keys off the keyboard and put them back where you want them. I think there is a cheap tool called a key puller to acheive this but I usually use my Swiss Army Knife with no problems.
This probably has not helped much, I'm sorry, but let me know how you get on.
