How do i set up a shell account

hello,

I wish to be a shell account provider - how would i go about setting that up?

Do you mean allowing people access to your box, just to use a shell prompt? If that is what you mean, I guess you want to set up your box as a SSH server. Here is a quick link that may be helpful.

(SSH Server set-up)

(SSH home site)

Hope this helps,

no that didn't really help much - i have never ever done this before so i will need step by step instructions - if anyone has set up their own shell accounts or anything - or if any1 knows of a site that give step by step

Some Ideas

Well if I was going to do this here are somethings to consider:

1. You would have to decide what each user could or could not do or use.
2. What programs would be available to each user.
3. Amount of disc space, memory, and cpu usage for each user.
4. Would you offer Email. (IMAP, POP, SMTP)
5. Lock down the filesystem.
6. Back-up Stragey.
7. What type of "user" or "fair use" agreements will you use.

Just some items to think about if you are going to set this up. Also I could be way off base but you never know.

Sincerely,

Danielallan

I think that those websites give you step by step instructions. Linux Forums was the first linux site I found. It has helped me before but so has this site. I think that you should follow the linux forums instructions
