how do I set my 256 Mb RAM to 128 Mb?

I have 256 Mb of RD RAM on my system. I would like to know how I could set the RAM to 128 Mb, 64 Mb etc.
Thank You.

Passing option to the kernel is one way to explictly state your ram size. If you have LILO, at your LILO prompt type

Linux mem=128

assuming that Linux is the label for booting into Linux.

You can store this in LILO configuration by adding the line

append="mem=128"

to /etc/lilo.conf

Forgive my naivity, but I'm wondering why you would do this? I'm sure you have a good reason, I'd just like to know what it is.

Thanks for responding Praveen. However I have Grub installed on my system. Any idea what I'm supposed to do?

rootyard, the reason I would actually want to downgrade my RAM settings is because I am currently working on a project involving Linux clusters. In this project I am required to test the performance of a benchmark program on the cluster with different RAM settings.

hey that makes sense.
