How do I restart X without rebooting?

Greetings,

I'm currently trying to setup a display on an older laptop, and I'm not sure how to restart only the X server when I want to try resolution changes.

What's the proper way to just restart the X server, without rebooting the machine?

Thanks much!

Also note that you can put multiple resolutions in your xorg.conf file ie:
Code:
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
and you can cycle through them without restarting X with [CTRL]-[ALT]-[+] and [CTRL]-[ALT]-[-].
