how do i record audio tapes
can someone tell me which is the best prog to record audio tapes so i can put them on cd :newbie:

Audacity is quite good, it will record from line in so you can plug you tape player in to that.
Also allows for editing, croping/levels etc. |
Yep, Audacity is the tool. It'll also allow you to clean up the recording and eliminate the almost inevitable background noise with a great noise removal tool.

linmix thanks for that as well it sounds like that is the prog i want
|
No Problem, Linux has loads of apps to do almost anything! And often more than one for each, so it can be fun trying to find the right thing!

I use Audacity, too - it's good..
If you want to reduce clicks / surface noise from an LP recording, Gnome Wave Cleaner is also excellent - but I make the initial recording in Audacity. |
ive been in windows forums before and not had answers as quick as i have on here thanks to you all

There's an awesome amount of audio software available for linux.
Not sure what distro you use, but for Fedora CCRMA provides a huge listing of tools. Even if you can't use it together with your distro it's a great database for info on audio apps. But in my experience Audacity has the best ease of use / number of available options ratio |
