How do I partition a hard drive?

Using Yast, I partitioned a blank harddrive as Ext2, and whenever I try and put anything on the disk, it says it failed to write. I know the drive works, its something wrong with some setting. How do I get it to work?

Did you actually create a file system or just the partition? Creating the file system is the same as 'formatting' the disk (disk DOS/Win speak) and must be done after creating the partition.

cheers

Jamie...

All three things have read permissions, and user has write permissions.
