q1 if you are using KDE....and am R handed...R hand click empty desktop and choose create new application (a) click the cog and scroll down to kppp (b) type in any word you like on the first tab eg dailer...now click the tab for application and type kppp....spelling is important here

then L hand click it to start it and create a new account with the ISP settings your isp should be able to supply....assume chap/pap is your connect type unless told otherwise....the domain name for isp is derived from the web address so www.myisp.net.au would be domain myisp.net.au

q2.....assuming you have pushed in usb hardware after linux starts.....check for a new icon on your desktop....if nothing check with root password the file..../var/log/dmesg that the kernel has enabled usb stuff.....and in future try to separate questions for any new posts....and report back if you have any problems pls

Bambam69: congrats on a good initial post. Good title, clear-ish questions. As a result you attracted a knowledgable person to respond to you.

Just a little bit to add to aus9 ... let us know if that modem dosn't seem to go when you try to dial out. You may need to install a special driver. We'll tell you how after you've tried OK?

Hello, thank you for the information, I was able to make the internet connection. The only problem I have now is with the USB drive. I go to my computer and it does not see the USB drive or maybe I am looking in the wrong place since this is my second day using Linux.

Than you for your help.

Try opening up a file manager like Konqueror, and in the browser bar type

file:/mnt/

works with my Mandrake system, not positive on Suse.

assuming you're looking on the desktop for a drive icon to appear...
right after you've plugged the usb drive in, given it a chance to "settle", try:

# lsusb

(the # means do it as root, while $ means do it as a user)
... your drive should show up there.

failing that, look at
$ dmesg | grep usb

and see what it says about the last usb device to be registered.

You may also want to look in whatever gui mount tool you like to use. It may just need to be mounted.

Have a look at:
