How do I make a simple File server for my home LAN?

Hi,

I'm willing to use an old machine (K6-2 450) as a file Server for my home network (using a Netgear wireless router) made up of XP clients and a Fedora client.

I know I should probably use Samba. I have a little Linux experience mainly with Fedora, but I'd like to know if anyone can point me to the easiest distro to do that and a good simple step-by-step install guide of Samba on that distro.

Many thanks
Charles

on my SuSe system, samba in installed as a default item. You can easy config your samba setting due to Yast. Works like a charm and it is easy at hell :p
