How do i install the java plugin?

I have fedora core 5, ive downloaded the java plugin tried the install instructions from the fedora web site and it did not take.
The plugin is for mozilla firefox.5.0

the plugin file is jre-1_5_0_11-linux-i586-rpm.bin

Do i have the right file, and is there an easy way to install?

Here are a couple usefull links, the first one is FC5 specific, the second shows how to install the latest java from sun java, can just install FC5 packages where it says to install repo packages. But check the first one first, it has a "how do I install java" link.

So far, of the three links we provided, only the second one I presented mentions how java from Sun site needs gcc-3 compatible libstdc++ libraries which are not installed by default on FC6, not sure about FC5. But this is where the problem is for most people because the libraries they do have installed are gcc-4 related.
