how do i install programs in mepis?
 

very new here, how do i install downloaded programs to mepis?

#apt-get update
#apt-get install <name of package>

open a terminal and type what he said. You will need to be root so type "su" without quotes and logon as root.
Or you can use synaptic. It should be under 'system'.

synaptic is a package manager which will let you install , remove and upgrade programs

it installs and upgrades by connecting to an online repository which holds thousands of programs
