I'm trying to upgrade my open office to new version 2.0 in a Mnadrake 10.1 linux.

I want to install brazilian portuguese version.

I've downloaded a RPM file but the content of it (it was in tar.gz format with RPM inside) is confused. Someone from Open Office brazil told me that there are 12 RPM's files ...

I can't find these files...

May someone of you give a step-by-step routine to upgrade my version?

Open a terminal and type 'urpmi openoffice'? Maybe a Mandriva user could come along and clarify this one

From the command line :

rpm -i OpenOffice.rpm

You may have to remove the other Open Office first. Your OS should have a GUI program that allows you to easily do this.

The suggestion to use "urpmi" may be very useful. I will try it. I hope that "urpmi" choose brazilian portuguese version of Open Office 2.0.

The other suggestion to use RPM was harmless since it only talk about RPM command syntax.

In any case, any aid from a Mandriva heavy user will be welcome...

Let me explain how i did the upgrade:

1- As NoobieDoobieDo says remove the previous version of the Open Office. To do so open the Mandrakelinux Control Center. Then choose the "Software Management" and from there choose "Remove". Search for "open office" and you will see "OpenOffice.org-1.1.3-0.20040820.9mdk". Select this package and click "Remove". The Control Center will prompt you that there are some related packages and they should be choosen too. So click "Ok". It will automatically select all the related packages and press "Remove".
Open Office 1.1.3 is gone.

2- You probably downloaded a <openoffice version>.tar.gz file from www.openoffice.org. Right click on that file and choose "Actions > Extract Here".

3- Open a terminal and sign in as a root. (type "su -" press Enter and type your root password and press enter again).

4- Go the the folder where the <openoffice version>.tar.gz is extracted to. (That folder is in the same place with that .tar.gz file and has a similar name to "OOO680_m3_native_packed-2_en-US.8968").

5- Type "cd RPMS/" (take you to the RPM folder).

6- Type "rpm -vi *.rpm" (install all the rpms).

7- Type "cd desktop-integration/ "

8- Type "rpm -iv openoffice.org-mandriva-menus-2.0.0-3.noarch.rpm" (I see that you are using Mandrake 10.1)

9- Type "openoffice.org-2.0" (This will take you through a registration process)

10- And for last I would suggest you to reboot your machine to get rid of the old menu items.

I know the importance of a "step-by-step" guideline when you are a newbie. I tried to be as clear as it is possible. I hope I didnot miss anything. Good Luck!

Thanks for ur articall.The prevously posted your articall helps me to install openoffice-org-3.0.0 in centos but not completly so can u post back the me the step where i be..............? Hope u will help me!

--- Now "rpm -vi *.rpm" already installed without problem. According to your articall "cd desktop-integration/" i unable to find. This is the place from where i can't go further.

--- My centos ver is 3.6.

Kindly help! which i need.

My problem is :- I m trying to install openoffice2.4.1 in redhat 9.0 in duration of installation i got this msg which i mention below :-----

Can you brief on which rpms are you installing? It says openoffice.org-core01 is needed.
So you need to install this rpm first and then proceed. Unless you install openoffice core package there is no meaning in installing menu package.
In addition, you are using a really old version of RH. Support for RH9 was dropped long way back. The newer version for RH is RHEL5. You can use either CentOS if you want to stick with RH or can use Fedora9 as well. Both are very RH like.

Also this thread is three years old. You may want to start a new thread for your problems though I answered it and then realized that it was an old post.

login: su
type your root password

go to: cd /tmp
Simply type: installpkg /tmp/openoffice.org-3.1.0_en_US-i586-1_rlw.tgz

make sure that your openoffice package is in your tmp folder.
remember you must download OpenOffice 3.1.0
try it! i hope it works..

This post is soooo old. Why did you even bother to answer as it was lying around for so long. But Even I am writing here so no meaning in asking someone else to not answer this.
But anyhow this post was regarding office in red hat. Your solution would make sense for Slackware based distributions.
