How do I install freeciv

I am newbie and I don't really understand how to install the latest freeciv. I've read the install instructions don't really help me at all. I also don't have any idea how to install the software. What I need is someone to give me a step by step approach on how to install Freeciv.

I've tried changing to the dir where I extracted Freeciv and typing in the command gmake freeciv but that doesn't work.

Also could someone recommend a good book for newbies to learn some basic commands such as gmake.

Oh btw I use RH-9.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can use rpmdrake (should be under System>Configuration>Packaging) to install freeciv. When the window opens, simply switch to "All packages, by group" and browse the tab on "Games" Should be located under the subcategory "Strategy". Then select freeciv and click install. Simple as that. I use MandrakeLinux 10.0, but I would think it is pretty much the same for 9.1 Good Luck!
