32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (X86_64) version? There is no functional flash player for 64-bit platform, people are using 32-bit firefox and 32-bit flash.

Download the player from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Follow the instructions to install it, making sure to do so as root or, if using Ubuntu, by using sudo.

I have had trouble installing the plugin for Opera using the install routine on some machines.

All the install routine seems to do is copy the plugin to the appropriate directory. If I run into problems, I just manually copy the plugin to the Opera plugins folder.
