How do I install an application?

I've installed Mandrakelinux 10.1 on my PC. I would like to install the Firefox browser, and other applications in general. Do I go to the control center?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

For many apps you can use the "Software Management" feature in the control centre, however im not sure if firefox is in there.

Download firefox from the official site (mozilla.org), extract it and run, should work, if it dosent let me know.

Use urpmi, the inbuilt package manager. Zebulon.org.uk and easyurpmi have good guides on how to setup and use it.

Just FYI, wulee, the Mandrake Control Center/Software Management is just a graphic front end to urpmi. ;)

Visit an EasyUrpmi site, set up your repositories (Firefox is on "contrib", IIRC), and you can install it from the control center.

And the last time I checked, the version available via urpmi is the "pre-final" version, not the final FireFox 1.0. It works fine, but if you want the latest version, follow cadj's advice above. ;)
